Image

Albufeira is very well known for its beach resorts, many of which are within walking distance of the shoreline. For visitors who have an interest in the local history, the Old Quarter is perfect and contains a large number of churches, chapels and other cultural landmarks. Many of the buildings in the Old Quarter were built in the 16th century. Historical information on the area can be found in the Museu Municipal de Arqueologia (Archaeology Museum) and the Museu de Arte Sacra (Museum of Sacred Art). There are also a large number of churches and monasteries located in the area for those who would like to learn about religion. Many of these offer guided tours.

Things to do

Many people who book luxury holidays to Portugal go to Albufeira because of the sandy beaches. However, there are plenty of other activities for those who do not simply want to relax in the sunshine.

Some of the most popular activities in the region include visiting theme parks. The Slide and Splash water park is perfect for families and contains a number of themed slides and swimming pools. The Zoo Marine water park has various marine animal shows which include dolphins, sea lions and even sharks. Another popular theme park is the Montechoro Fun Park, which has a large number of fun activities, including both a full scale golf course and a mini golf course.

There are also plenty of day trips that people can take when they are visiting Albufeira. Those who have hired a car hire will often drive along the vast coastline of beaches towards Portinao and Lagos, where tourists can stop for a spot of water sports and jet skiing.
