Barcelona is known for its history and charm. It is amongst the oldest capital in Europe and has a variety of artistic treasures such as the Romanesque churches. It also has beautiful beaches in La Costa Brava, a unique place where nature, and history collide. The city sits between the sea and the mountains and has found a formidable balance: a foot in the traditional things and the other in the avant-garde. Barcelona has the reputation of being the most cosmopolitan, modern and avant-garde city in Spain and it has renewed for the 1992 Olympic Games.

Things To Do:

You will not be short of things to do in Barcelona, here are a few of our favourites. Explore the city by foot or bike spend a day seeing sites such as the Parc de la Cituatadella and the Joan Miro. Admire some of the city’s modernista architecture such as the Gaudi and the Park Guell, an English garden city that looks like something out of a fairy tale. Try some local cuisine, such as tapas, pintxos and vermouth. We recommend the Bar Calders, La Pepita, Quimet and the El Jabali.

Ideal for:

Discover some of Barcelona’s art, take a walk around the lush gardens of the Teatre Grec and the Fundacio Joan Miro, one of the largest museums in the world home to over 200 paintings and 150 sculptures. Visit the Sant Pau del Camp, a rare example of Romanesque architecture and the Santa Maria del Mar one of the best surviving examples of Catalan Gothic architecture.

For anybody who loves history and art but also yearns for a vibrant, colourful culture that engages confidently with the modern world, Barcelona in Spain is a great place for a holiday. A stylish city that blends a long and honourable history pre-dating the Romans with artistic panache, this is a great place for a five-star holiday and is bound to leave impressions and memories that will last a lifetime. What’s more, Barcelona has three miles of Mediterranean coastline and seven beaches, making it perfectly possible for visitors to combine a break in one of Europe’s leading cities with a beach holiday.
