The history of Relais Vignale, which was originally a farm, goes hand in hand with the history of the Chianti Classico wine.
The first historical records date back to the 1700’s, among the documents of Grand Duke Peter Leopold of Lorraine there is a mention that, Falconi, the owners of that time: “…trade and send wine to England…”. Later the Pianigiani family took over from the Falconi and they greatly enhanced the wine production. In August 1924 at the Vignale Vineyard, the Chianti notary Pianegiani Baldassarre, drew up the article of incorporation for the “Gallo Nero” Consortium, to protect and promote the local wine “Chianti Classico”. Testament to this continuity are the documents conserved within the Vigniale archives where the Centre for Chianti Historical studies has its registered office and which is also the historic location for the Chianti Classico wine consortium.
