Skiathos Town is a rocking resort with every kind of luxury holiday available. With at least 12 hotels, even more B&Bs, and lots of apartment and villa complexes, the hospitality is second to none, even in Greece. Visitors can enjoy the seaviews with local ouzo, eat out every night for good value and exquisite Greek food, dance all night if they must, or shop all day in little boutiques with fantastic crafts and clothing and souvenirs for sale. With temperatures from 23°C to 28°C during the peak months, there’s no reason why every day can’t be a beach day, and since there are 60-70 beaches on the island, there are quite a lot to choose from.
Things to do
For the more adventurous vacationer, Skiathos Town is the gateway to the rest of the island. Cars and motorbikes can be rented by the day and there are some fabulous, old places to enjoy, including the Monastery of Evangalistra, which is part of Greece’s modern history, and the Church of Prophet Illias, which boasts breathtaking views across both the island and the sea.
Visitors who want to see bits of the island, but who aren’t confident about hiring a car or motorbike can take one of the many regular buses that travel from Skiathos Town. They run at approximately 15 minute intervals during the summer and are extremely easy to use. Alternatively, mountain biking in the area is very popular and bikes are easy to hire.
With more than one diving centre located in the town, Skiathos is a great place to both learn to scuba dive, and to carry out more advanced dives.
